Do You Have What It Takes To Be An Entrpreneur?

This questionnaire is a means of promoting thought and discussion. It comes in the form of a series of statements to which you answer “agree”, “don’t know” or “disagree”.

Your answers don’t provide an assessment of your potential ability as an entrepreneur. Being an entrepreneur is not as simple as that. They also don’t act as a psychological assessment. Instead, they give you an opportunity to engage in an interesting exercise that may provide insights into an entrepreneurial life and help you judge whether you’re suited to it.

The statements also complement the articles featured on the rest of the BusinessAndEntrepreneur’s website. So if you find yourself pondering over a statement and unsure how to respond, don’t worry. Reading through the website can put your thoughts into better order. You can then return to this questionnaire and try again.

Answers

A = agreeB = don’t knowC = disagree

Section One: Personal Objectives

1. I want to be independent A O B O C O

2. I want to become wealthy A O B O C O

3. I want to be satisfied with my work rather than rich A O B O C O

4. I want more control over my future A O B O C O

6. I want to be a leader A O B O C O

7. I want to be recognised as an expert or role model A O B O C O

8. I want to be my own boss A O B O C O

If you agree with at least four of the above statements, you have the personal objectives of a potential entrepreneur. It doesn’t matter which of the four you agree with: the point is that you possess some of the key positive characteristics of successful business people.

Section Two: General Attitude

1. I take risks A O B O C O

2. I believe I can make my own luck in life A O B O C O

3. I’m positive in the face of adversity A O B O C O

4. A failure is a chance to learn A O B O C O

5. I give up easily if things don’t work out A O B O C O

6. I like to deal with simple rather than uncertain issues A O B O C O

If you agree with the first four of the above statements, you have the attitude that many successful entrepreneurs display. You are also likely to have disagreed with statements 5 and 6.

If you answered “don’t know” to any of the six statements, go back and reconsider. A “don’t know” answer isn’t negative, but it does suggest you need to give more thought to how you may cope with the demands of an entrepreneur’s life.

Section Three: Approach to Work

1. I separate my work from my family life A O B O C O

2. I work hard and play hard A O B O C O

3. I’m creative and generate lots of ideas A O B O C O

4. I’m never happier than when I have a problem to solve A O B O C O

10. I take responsibility for my work A O B O C O

11. I can easily motivate others A O B O C O

12. I can spot business opportunities A O B O C O

The ideal entrepreneur will agree to all of the above statements. Even so, agreeing with eight or more is a good sign. If you disagree with any, or have put “don’t know”, go back and ask yourself why. Your answers may help you identify your potential weaknesses and give you the chance to address these before you become a full-time entrepreneur.
